What is Mechanical design engineering?
Mechanical design engineering can
be referred as to test, develop and improve manufacturing process and to create
product designs. It is a vast study because it includes all the desciplines of
mechanical engineering, like machine design, material science, thermal fluids,
kinematics and heat transfer. It uses the principles of physics, chemistry and
mathematics to solve the problems.
What design engineers do?
Mechanical design
engineers use computer aided design (CAD) software to create model and to solve
various problems. They create design of a product and do analysis. Mechanical design
engineers use the principles of physics, chemistry and mathematics to solve
problems. They create and develop prototypes and run tests to measure their
level of performance.
Required qualifications to become a mechanical design engineers:
1) Education: Mechanical
design engineers should have bachelor’s degree in design engineering,
mechanical engineering and manufacturing engineering. Many design engineers
also have master’s degrees or doctorates.
2) Training: Mechanical design engineers
should have trained in various design softwares like Auto Cad and should have
knowledge on physics, chemistry and mathematics.
3) Skills: Mechanical design
engineers need several soft and hard skills like creativity, technnical
skills, analytical thinking, time management, team work and communication.

Top mechanical designing softwares:
1) Auto Cad: Auto Cad is a computer aided design (CAD)
and drafting software application. It was developed and marketed by Autodesk. Auto Cad was first released in December 1982 as a
desktop app. It is used in various industries and it is used by engineers,
designers and other professionals. Auto Cad is the basic designing software and
mainly used to create 2D drawings. It can improve the designing process related
to different fields. It is used in making designs of infrastructure,
technology, automobiles and much more. With the help of Auto CAD one can design
anything or everything.
2) Solid Works: Solid Works is a solid modeling computer aided
design and computer aided engineering and Solid Works is published by Dassault
systems, released in November 1995. It enables mechanical engineers for
designing engineering products. You can call it as a Three dimensional CAD
Design software and also as a 3D Computer-Aided Design Software. Using a
three-dimensional CAD Design software like Solidworks makes life simple for the
engineers because it saves their time and money.
3) CATIA: Catia is Computer
Aided Three Dimensional Interactive Application developed by dassault systems. CATIA software is a multi-platform software suite
for computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, computer-aided
engineering. It has all the modules like part design, assembly design, surface
design etc. but it is populored for its advanced surface modeling capabilities.
4) Solid
Edge: Solid Edge is a 3D CAD developed by Siemens PLM software, released
in 1955. It improves your product design and manufacturing processes, as well
as save a lot of prototyping time. Solid edge is not just a CAD system. It
provides engineering solutions for real life engineering problems.
5) Pro engineer
(Creo): Pro Engineer is 3D modeling software
used in mechanical engineering, design, manufacturing. It is best
for sheet metal design and best for assembly.
